Telia Carrier Announces Expanded Connectivity Options to Iowa

Stockholm, 17 November 2020 – Telia Carrier announced today completion of a new diverse DWDM fiber system through Des Moines, Iowa providing new connectivity service options at 666 Walnut. The expansion is part of Telia Carrier’s ongoing organic buildout of its North American network and commitment to provide customers both direct and diverse route options.

“We are pleased to be working with UPN, who have made a significant investment in new diverse local fiber in Iowa. Des Moines represents an important and growing technology, research and education hub in the Midwest,” said Stephen Hartman, Head of North American Sales, Telia Carrier. “Combining UPN’s extensive reach across the state of Iowa with Telia Carrier’s number one global backbone offers customers high capacity reach and a robust ecosystem from the Silicon Prairie to the rest of the world.”

“Reliable, strong infrastructure is mission critical for business customers in today’s technology driven world,” said Travis Noble, Senior Vice President of Sales for Unite Private Networks. “We’re thrilled to partner with Telia Carrier to provide access in Des Moines. By working together we give business customers in the region access to diverse, carrier-grade networks to serve both last-mile and long-haul needs.”
Unite Private Networks (UPN) fiber-optic network in Iowa consists of nearly 1,500 miles creating a diverse ring around the state, connecting all major metro areas in central and eastern Iowa including the Des Moines metro, Ames, Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Davenport.

Telia Carrier’s latest ‘Silicon Prairie’ network build-out addresses growing demand for high-capacity services from customers in the region that need direct access to reliable internet connectivity as well as local connectivity to cloud providers. The new diverse East-West route delivers the capacity to content, application, and cloud providers and underserved populations in the region to bring connectivity to rural communities, particularly in the Midwest.

Telia Carrier deploys the latest generation of high-capacity enhanced-reach coherent DWDM technology and an open photonic layer to expand the local availability of high-speed Wavelength, IP Transit, Cloud Connect, Ethernet and Internet Exchange (IPX) Connect services for operators, content providers and enterprises alike.

Telia Carrier investments in network infrastructure provide seamless access to additional data centers in the dynamic growth areas of Chicago, Omaha and Denver. With more than 2,000 customers worldwide, the investment is a continuation of the carrier’s organic growth story and geographic expansion to better serve existing markets and reach new ones.
